Creating a Signature View in SwiftUI: A Step-by-Step Guide

Signature views are an effective way to capture user signatures in your SwiftUI app. In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through the process of building a signature view using Swift and SwiftUI.

Step 1: Setting Up Your Project

To get started, create a new SwiftUI project in Xcode. Choose a suitable name and ensure that you select “SwiftUI” as the interface option. This sets the stage for building our signature view.

Step 2: Add UIKit class `ADrawSignatureView`

Create a file DrawSignatureView.swift & copy below written code in that. The class in this code defines a custom ADrawSignatureView class in Swift, which inherits from UIView. It enables users to draw signatures, providing touch handling, customization options, and delegate callbacks.

Step 3: Defining the SignatureView.swift

The code in SignatureView.swift defines a SignatureViewContainer using UIViewRepresentable. It wraps an ADrawSignatureView, allowing users to draw signatures. The view handles clearing the signature, updates image and PDF data bindings, and delegates to a coordinator for completion events. The coordinator, conforming to ASignatureDelegate, manages the signature-related actions.

The code includes extensions for creating a custom UIView with a specified background color. Step 4: Setting up the View Hierarchy

Now lets put our engine in some skeleton, we have created all functions & functionalities let’s use it now in a SwiftUI view. The SwiftUI ContentView displays a vertical stack with a title and a signature drawing area. The user can sign within the specified area, and the drawn signature is captured as an image and PDF. Buttons for clearing the signature and initiating the signing process are provided.

The state variables (isSigning and clearSignature) control the view's behavior, enabling or disabling the signature drawing.
